Indiana All-Stars

By Mike Broughton

Mike BroughtonThe 2020-21 Indiana high school basketball season has been one of hard work, hardships and sacrifice. The year of COVID-19 brought the best out of the Hoosier state as high schools worked diligently to give the student-athletes of Indiana a chance to compete and play basketball at the high school level.

As the third-year games director of the Indiana All-Star program, I had the good fortune each week of seeing the best teams and players in the state play on Hudl, television or, when allowed, in person. It again amazes me how communities across the state put together the necessary precautions and resources to make Indiana high school hoops the envy of other states across the country.

This summer, the Indiana-Kentucky All-Star games will be in their 79th year of competition in an 82-year span (with no games in 1943 and 1944 during World War II and in 2020 because of COVID-19). The quality of basketball in both the girls and boys level never has never higher as eight great teams have been crowned an Indiana state champion.

It is my hope that the 27 graduating seniors who represent the state of Indiana this summer against Kentucky will not only enjoy the week-long experience and create life-long memories, but I also hope they will play with a toughness that will make the Hoosier state proud.

I want to personally thank the 10 coaches who will sacrifice parts of their summer to represent the state of Indiana in both the Indiana Junior-Senior games as well as the Indiana-Kentucky All-Star series on June 11 in Owensboro, Ky., and June 12 at Southport Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.

The Southport athletic department and the IBCA will be striving to bring a safe and friendly environment to Southport High School on Saturday, June 12 when the Indiana All-Stars battle Kentucky. We will be following all state guidelines at the event, and we will do everything in our power to make this a night to remember.

It is my hope that many of you not only will attend the Indiana-Kentucky All-Star Games in June, but I also hope that some of you will also bring your teams to this event. It takes significant funding to operate the All-Star series, and all tickets sold will help contribute to this great Hoosier tradition.

As you can see by the schedule listed below, it is a busy summer of hoops. Go Indiana! Beat Kentucky!
