2014-15 Boys Coaches of the Year

 

Congratulations to the 2014-15 Bob King Award winners as Boys' Coaches of the Year.

Marty Beasley

District 1 - Carroll (Fort Wayne)

Marty BeasleyMarty Beasley is a District 1 Coach of the Year after guiding Carroll (Fort Wayne) to a 23-4 season that included a sectional championship and a runner-up finish in the Northeast Hoosier Conference. The 23 wins tied a 30-year record for most wins in a season at Carroll.

Beasley has been a head coach for 16 seasons with an overall mark of 211-155. That includes the past 10 seasons at Carroll, where he has compiled a 142-90 record with three NHC championships as well as three sectional titles and one regional crown. Beasley previously was head coach for six seasons at Garrett (69-65), capturing one sectional and one regional with the Railroaders.

A 1989 graduate of Columbia City High School and a 1993 graduate of Taylor University, Beasley previously was honored as an IBCA Coach of the Year in 2009. He also was NHC Coach of the Year in 2008 and 2009. In addition, he was KPC News Coach of the Year in 2002 and 2004.

Beasley, who played in high school for Jerry Bomholt and played in college for Paul Patterson, began his coaching career at Hamilton Heights Middle School (1993-95) when Bill Bowen was the varsity coach at Heights. Beasley then was a varsity assistant for two seasons at Columbus East for Ty Platt (1995-97) and the JV coach for two seasons at Columbia City for Chris Benedict (1997-1999) prior to becoming the head coach at Garrett.

Beasley teaches algebra at Carroll High School. He is the father of two daughters, Morgan (15) and Brooke (13).

Mike McBride

District I - Churubusco

Mike McBrideMike McBride recently completed his seventh season at Churubusco High School. His team went 22-4 in 2014-15, setting a school record for wins in a season while winning the school’s first Northeast Corner Conference Tournament title and the school’s first NECC regular-season title.

McBride has a 77-79 record in his seven seasons at Churubusco, and he has an overall record of 113-128 in 11 years as a head coach. McBride won a sectional in 2003 at Triton, where he spent for years as head coach with a 36-49 mark. He also served as an assistant at Northridge, Carmel and Carroll (Fort Wayne).

He played high school basketball at Triton before moving on the play college basketball at Bethel College and was a member of the Pilots’ 1995 NAIA national championship team.

McBride served as an IBCA district representative from 2011-13. He teaches algebra and geometry at Maple Creek Middle School.

He and his wife, Lisa, a former basketball coach at Carroll (Fort Wayne), have four sons – Luke (10), Adam (8), Nick (7) and Josh (5).

Brent Brobston

District 2 - Frankton

Brent BrobstonBrent Brobston has been varsity boys’ basketball of the Frankton Eagles since 2008.

Under his direction, Brobston has guided the Eagles to four straight Central Indiana Conference championships. This season, the Eagles won a school record 26 games while just dropping three en route to a Class 2A state runner-up finish.

In 2012, Brobston’s Eagles earned the program’s first sectional championship and his first as a head coach. Frankton won its second sectional title and its first regional and semistate in 2015. Brobston has compiled a 99-69 record in his seven years at Frankton. The Eagles have received state rankings the past three seasons, ranking as high as No. 9 in 2013 and No. 2 in 2014 and 2015.

Brobston has been appointed head coach for the North Team for the this spring’s North-South Indiana All-Star Classic. He also has been named an assistant coach for the 2015 Indiana Junior All-Stars.

Brobston graduated from Frankton High School in 1995 and went on to play basketball at Anderson University, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in education (2000) and a master’s degree in curriculum (2005). Currently, Brobston works as Assistant Athletic Director and Dean at Frankton Junior-Senior High School.

Brobston has been married to his wife, Keri, for 14 years. The couple has three children – Ayden (12), Addison (11), and Ashton (5).

Rick Peckinpaugh

District 2 - McCutcheon

Rick PeckinpaughRick Peckinpaugh is an IBCA District 2 Coach of the Year after guiding McCutcheon to a 22-5 season that included a Class 4A Sectional 7 title and a runner-up finish in the North Central Conference.

Peckinpaugh has been a varsity coach for 36 years, compiling a 488-325 record at two schools. He was 62-63 at Avon and has followed with a 426-262 mark at McCutcheon. His teams have won 10 sectionals, four regionals and won or shared conference titles on eight occasions.

A 1970 graduate of Shenandoah High School, Peckinpaugh played four seasons at Indiana State before entering coaching. He started as a freshman coach for one season at Turkey Run and then was an assistant coach for four seasons at Muncie Central for Bill Harrell, helping the Bearcats claim state championships in 1978 and 1979.

He became a head coach at Avon in the fall of ’79 and guided the Orioles for six seasons before moving to McCutcheon. He has directed the Mavericks for 30 seasons with sectional titles coming in 1986, 1987, 1988, 1990, 1991, 1994, 1995, 2001, 2006 and 2015. Regional crowns came in 1987, 1994, 1995 and 2001.

Peckinpaugh has been chosen a conference coach of the year six times (1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, 2001 and 2005) and was selected the Lafayette area Coach of the Year in 1995. He also served as an Indiana All-Star assistant coach to Harrell in 1979.

Peckinpaugh and his wife, Mary, enjoy time with family. Peckinpaugh is the father of three adult children – Chad (a ’95 Indiana All-Star who currently is a McCutcheon assistant coach), Kyle and Cheyann – who have provided three grandchildren.

Michael Adams

District 3 - Evansville Reitz

Michael AdamsMichael Adams is an IBCA District 3 Coach of the Year after guiding Evansville Reitz to a 29-2 season that included sectional, regional and semistate championships. The Panthers also won the Southern Indiana Athletic Conference regular-season and tournament titles.

Adams has been a varsity coach for 25 years with an overall record of 355-215. He has coached the past 22 seasons at Evansville Reitz (296-203) and the previous three seasons at Washington Catholic (59-12). Over the years, his teams have won seven sectionals, two regionals and one semistate. They also captured eight conference championships, five SIAC Tournament titles and two Toyota Classic Tournament crowns.

Adams began his coaching career as an assistant coach at Westfield under Mark Barnhizer. He then served four seasons at the University of Indianapolis, two as a volunteer coach under Bill Keller and David Wood and two more as a graduate assist for Bill Green and Larry Humes.

A 1980 graduate of Southwestern (Hanover), where he was a four-year varsity player, Adams attended the University of Indianapolis. He played two seasons for the Greyhounds, then spent two years in the U.S. Army before returning to UIndy and graduating in 1987. He earned a master’s degree in 1990.

Over the years, Adams has been chosen UIndy Alumni Coach of the Year twice, the Blue Chip Conference Coach of the Year twice and the Evansville Courier all-Metro Coach of the Year. He was a Junior All-Star assistant coach in 2003 and an Indiana All-Star assistant coach in 2010. He will coach the West team in the 2015 HBCA All-Star Classic.

Adams currently teaches health and physical education at Reitz and is the department head of science and health/physical education.

Adams and his wife, Donna, are parents to three children – Drew (23), Leah (20) and Emma (10).

Brandon Hoffman

District 3 - Silver Creek

Brandon HoffmanBrandon Hoffman recently completed his fifth season as the varsity boys’ basketball coach at Silver Creek High School, where his team went 23-3 and claimed the Class 3A Sectional 30 championship as well as a Mid-Southern Conference title.

A 1998 graduate of Silver Creek, Hoffman was a three-year varsity player for the Dragons. He attended Hanover College and was a four-year letterman for the Panthers under coach Mike Beitzel.

Upon graduation, Hoffman returned to Silver Creek as JV coach for seven years under Coach John Bradley. Hoffman then became the Dragons’ varsity coach in 2010. During his varsity tenure, Hoffman's teams have gone 69-45. His teams have won MSC titles in 2012 and 2015 plus consecutive sectional crowns in 2014 and 2015.

Hoffman, who was voted MSC Coach of the Year in 2012 and 2015, teaches physical education and health at Silver Creek.

He and his wife, Jessica, have three children – Walker (8), Harper (5) and Lincoln (2).
