Pat Rady of Cloverdale and Terry Minix of Oregon-Davis have been chosen as Indiana’s nominees for the National Federation of State High School Associations national basketball coaches of the year.
Rady began his career as eighth-grade coach for one season at Scribner Junior High in New Albany. He then coached five seasons at Bainbridge (83-33), five years at Winchester (79-33), one year at Southmont (9-12), five years at Shelbyville (72-56), 24 years at Terre Haute South (375-180) and the past 10 seasons at Cloverdale. His teams have won 19 sectionals, eight regionals and one semistate. He was the Indiana All-Star coach in 1989 and has been inducted into the Hanover College, Indiana Basketball, Terre Haute South and Montgomery County halls of fame. Rady is a 1959 graduate of Roachdale High School and a 1963 graduate of Hanover College. He earned a master’s degree from Indiana State in 1970. He and his wife, Margaret, have two sons and three grandchildren.
Minix is a 1980 graduate of Oregon-Davis and attended Bethel College in Mishawaka, where he played basketball for three seasons. He was an OD assistant coach for two seasons before becoming the Bobcats’ head coach. Minix and his wife, Cheryl, have three daughters – Aubrey, 24, Gabrielle, 22, and Lexi, 16. All three daughters played for Coach Minix. |
