Marilyn CoddensDistrict I: South Bend Washington![]() Coach Coddens has coached elementary and junior high boys, 7th and 8th grade girls and was an assistant girls coach at South Bend Riley, before becoming the head coach at South Bend Washington in 1994. During her 12 years as head coach, she has led the Panthers to 3 Northern Indiana Conference Championships, 4 Sectional Championships and 1 Regional Championship. Coach Coddens has earned numerous Coach of the Year Awards and was selected to serve as an Assistant Coach in the 2005 McDonalds All American Game and the 2005 Indiana All Star Series with Kentucky. Going into the Semi-state, the Panthers are 24-1 and have been ranked #1 most of the season. Coach Coddens career record is 191-70. Super job Coach! Mark UnderwoodDistrict I: Manchester![]() Coach Underwood has been the Girls Basketball Coach at Manchester for the past five years. His other varsity coaching experience was at Borden, where he turned around the boys program from 4-17 record his first year to 17-4 two years later. During the past three years, the Squires have won two Wabash County tournaments, two Three Rivers Conference Championships and two Sectional Championships. Coach Underwood led Manchester to a 21-3 record this season. The past two seasons, Coach Underwood was named Wabash County Coach of the Year and he has a 73-38 career record at Manchester. Congratulations Coach! Scott BowenDistrict II: Carmel![]() Scott Bowen of Carmel High School completes his second year as the Lady Hounds Head Coach with a 36-11 record. He has been coaching basketball at the varsity level for the past twelve years. Coach Bowen has experience coaching both boys and girls basketball. He was an assistant at Brebeuf from 1994-1998 for the boys program. He spent the 1998-2000 years coaching the girls at Hamilton Southeastern as an assistant and the interim head coach. Scott continued his coaching at North Central from 2002-2002 with the girls program. Finally Scott made it back to his almamater, Carmel, where he served as the boys JV Coach from 2002-2004 until taking over the girls program in 2004. This season the Lady hounds were ranked #1 at various times and finished the season at 20-5. Well done, Coach! Chris HuppenthalDistrict II, Hamilton Southeastern![]() This is Coach Huppenthal’s first year at Hamilton Southeastern after coaching at Highland and Kokomo. Coach has taken a rather inexperienced group of players and led them to a sectional and regional championship as this newsletter goes to print. The Royals finished the regular season with an 18-3 record and were ranked 8th in the final 4A coaches poll. Coach Huppenthal is 197-41 in his 10th year as a head coach. Outstanding season coach! Chad GilbertDistrict III: Jeffersonville![]() Coach Gilbert is a University of Southern Indiana graduate where was a First Team All-American on the 1995 Division II National Championship team coached by current Tennessee Volunteer coach Bruce Pearl. In his sixth year as the head coach at Jeffersonville, Jeff’s up-tempo style of play and pressure defense have led the Lady Devils to an overall record of 113-24, including 101-15 over the past 5 years. The 2005-2006 Runnin’ Red Devils finished the season 22-1 ranked #2 in 4A with no seniors on the roster. The Lady Devils have won 3 Hoosier Hills Conference championships and 3 sectional championships during his tenure. Mike PowlessDistrict III: Evansville Central![]() Coach Powless has been teaching and coaching for 24 years. He began at the Middle school level before working his way to the High School level as Assistant Track and Freshman Boys Basketball Coach at Evansville Central. During the next eight years he assumed the positions of boys Varsity track coach and boys reserve basketball coach. In 2002, he had the opportunity to become the Varsity Basketball Coach for Central’s Lady Bears. Coach Powless just finished his fourth season with a 17-6 record. The Lady Bears have shown steady improvement since his first season when the team finished with a 3-18 record. The next two seasons ended with records of 11-10 and 15-7 respectfully. Coach, congratulations! You have done a great job building the Lady Bears program. Congratulations to all coaches |
