2009 Indiana All-Stars Series

By Charlie Hall

Charlie HallAs game director for the 2009 Girls' and Boys' Indiana All-Star Games I am very excited about our efforts to grow the games and raise money for the Indianapolis Star Lend-A-Hand charity. Kentucky has become energized by winning three of the four games last year and opening a new arena in Louisville in 2010. To promote interest in the games in Indiana we are inviting all of the returning players from any school that has a 2009 All-Star to play in a shoot-out on game day (June 13th). I’d like to thank Steve Witty and the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association for all their help in setting up this tournament. An All-Star game ticket gets people in to see the shoot-out as well as the All-Star games. We believe twenty-four sets of enthusiastic teams cheering on their former teammates will add to the Hoosier basketball all star game day atmosphere. We are also exploring the possibility of creating a “fan jam” atmosphere around Conseco on game day with clinics, games, prizes, autograph sessions and entertainment for people attending the games.

As last year, the Indiana girls' and boys' All-Stars will play our Kentucky counterparts in a one weekend series. This year the games will be on Saturday and Sunday. We will play Kentucky at Conseco Saturday, June 13th; the girls’ game at 3:00 PM and the boys’ game at 5:30 PM. The games in Kentucky will be at Bellarmine University in Louisville on Sunday, June 14th; the girls’ game at 2:00 PM and the boys’ game at 4:00 PM.

Two exhibition games pitting the senior All-Stars against the Junior All-Star teams selected by the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association will be played the Tuesday (June 9th) and Thursday (June 11th) preceding the weekend of the Indiana-Kentucky All-Star games. Locations and times for the exhibition games will be announced later.

Indianapolis Star Indiana All-Star announcement dates to look forward to:

  • Feb. 28th - Girls' All-Star Coaches
  • Mar. 21st - Boys' All-Star Coaches
  • Mar. 25nd - Miss Basketball
  • Mar. 26th - Girls' All-Star Team
  • Apr. 12th - Mr. Basketball
  • Apr. 16th - Boys' All-Star Team

As always our All-Stars are a direct result of your efforts in coaching these young people to develop to a point that they can play at such a high level. Thanks for all your help and support in making the Indiana-Kentucky All-Star festivities and games truly a special part of Hoosier basketball tradition. I look forward to seeing all of you at the All-Star games.
