"Best of Indiana" Launched to Promote Top Players

By Pat Aikman

Pat AikmanIf coaches want to promote their best players for post-season honors, to college recruiters and to the media, the IBCA now offers “Best in Indiana” on it's website. The new site is an effort to boost further involvement in the IBCA website and also bring attention to many of the state’s most outstanding freshman, sophomore, junior and senior boys and girls. Here’s how it works:

  • Coaches with a candidate must put together up to 75 words about the player: height, weight, positions played best, strengths, important stats, testimonials, season or post season honors and other significant facts. Adding academic information (GPA, class rank, SAT scores) is optional. Coaches should add their name, school and a phone number or email address.
  • Step two is sending the information to Patrick (Pat) Aikman, the IBCA’s recently named Special Projects Coordinator. The information can be emailed to Pat (jpatrick1935@aol.com) or sent via U.S. mail to him at 1075 Sedona Pass, Indianapolis, IN 46206. The information you send should be accurate and verifiable. No puffery please!
  • Step three includes Aikman screening and editing (if needed) the information and forwarding it to our webmaster for inclusion as soon as possible for Best in Indiana on www.ibcacoaches.com.

What you have just read (the 75-word summary) is called Plan A. And it’s a free service. There’s a Plan B too…with a fee.

Under Plan B, you may expand the summary about your player to 150 words and add a photograph of your player. This option will cost $75. Revenue from Plan B will help underwrite IBCA expenses. If you select Plan B, make your check payable to: IBCA Best in Indiana. Send it under separate cover to Aikman. Those who select Plan B will have their summaries posted when payment is received. It will be displayed until September 30, 2008, when all information and pictures will be removed. A new cycle begins for a full 12-months of exposure from October 1, 2008 through September 30, 2009. The 12-month Plan B will then be $100.

If you have questions, contact Pat at jpatrick1935@aol.com or call him at 317.569.8096. Messages left on the answering machine will be returned as soon as possible.

We expect the site to become increasingly popular with college coaches of NCAA Division I, II, and III, NAIA, and Junior Colleges. If you aren’t a gifted writer, ask a member of the media to prepare a summary for you. Coaches should send it along to Aikman. Submissions will be verified if there’s a question of authenticity. That’s why its important that only coaches actually submit material.
