Coaches Step Up to Fight Cancer

Thanks to all coaches, teams schools and dedicated community members who participated in the First Annual IBCA Coaches vs Cancer initiative. Your contributions to support the fight against cancer are much appreciated. We have received numerous e-mails, calls and faxes reporting your activities and the amount of money that was raised. Please continue to report your totals. Donations have ranged from $37.23 to $11,758.60. So far the IBCA has raised over $60,000.

Those coaches who got their teams involved in Coaches vs Cancer are teaching their players something far more important than offense and defense. You are teaching them a skill that they will carry through out their lives and into the communities where they will work and serve. Please continue to be a positive influence on the youth of our great state who will become productive citizens of tomorrow.

The following is a list of those schools who have contacted us about their participation in Coaches vs Cancer and some of the activities that were held.

Activities

Some collected funds in honor of survivors, victims of the disease or those currently fighting the disease.

Activities to raise money:

• Coaches wore pink socks
• Sold designated t-shirts and wore them to game
• Collections during designated games
• Cheerleaders wore pink socks and bows in their hair
• Players wore pink socks
• Coaches wore tennis shoes to game
• School donated $1 from every ticket purchases
• Dress down day for high schoolers
• Donation tables at the game while each class had buckets to donate to during school
• Pink warm-up shirts and pink shoe laces
• Players wore game shoes with their shirts, ties and dress pants and went into stands to collect
• 10% of gate sales donated
• Proceeds from the sale of cookies and ice cream during lunch
• Silent auction
