I want to commend the coaches, players and administrators for their efforts in navigating a challenging year of high school basketball this past season. The resilience of everyone involved, coupled with the fact that the IHSAA made a courageous decision to try to have some semblance of a season for our student-athletes in the face of a pandemic, is commendable.
This past summer your coaches’ association, as a result of the efforts of the IBCA Board, was able to conduct our annual Underclass Showcase events and the Indiana-Kentucky All-Star games. It is our hope that everyone will make an effort to be in attendance at the IBCA Mini-Clinic on Oct. 16 at Lawrence North High School in Indianapolis. The clinic, including its Awards Program, is being held this fall because our annual IBCA Spring Clinic – normally held in April – was postponed. We plan on resuming our spring clinic in April 2022.
As we all know, the challenges of the pandemic just won’t seem to go away. Hopefully as more people become vaccinated, we can achieve some sense of normalcy. Our first priority always should be the health and welfare of everyone involved in our great game. If adjustments during the season need to be made due to health guidelines or mandates, we all must be prepared to make those adjustments.
Your professional organization is busy preparing for another successful season of high school basketball. I feel confident regardless of the challenges we may face as coaches and administrators in education-based athletics, we all will fulfill our awesome responsibilities to the student-athletes we serve.
Thank you for your continued support of the IBCA. I hope everyone has a great year.
