Welcome basketball coaches to the 2021-22 season. I hope everyone had a great summer and had several opportunities to spend quality time with your families. I know most coaches have started their fall workouts and even conditioning at this point, so I wish you the best of luck as you prepare your teams for the upcoming season.
The IBCA/IHSAA Top 100 Boys and Girls Underclass Showcase events held this summer had great participation and tremendous support. These events were very well attended by college coaches throughout the Midwest. We continue to receive outstanding feedback from the college coaches about the quality of the events and the organization.
Our other big event this summer was the IBCA/IHSAA Team Showcase in memory of Charlie Hughes. Bringing together some of the top basketball teams and talent in the state of Indiana to the Indianapolis area has been a blessing for both our high school coaches and the college coaches. It allows teams to compete against the best teams in the state, which they might not get to play against in the regular season. It allows our student-athletes to showcase their basketball skills to college coaches in a more team-oriented setting. We continue to hear many positive comments about this format from coaches, players and spectators.
I would like to remind coaches – inexperienced or experienced – about our IBCA Coaches Mentor Program. We have several experienced coaches in each district whom you can reach out to for ideas, information, strategy or support. These coaches are knowledgeable, articulate, compassionate and successful.
We would really like to grow our membership numbers. Head coaches: Please continue to reach out to the coaches on your staff at every level and explain the benefits of being a part of our outstanding organization. Importantly, joining the IBCA gives each coach the benefit of a $2 million liability insurance policy.
We would like to thank our corporate partners for their support of the IBCA. The contributions from firms such as BSN Sports, Franciscan Health Sports Medicine, Point Guard College, D-One Camps, Five Guys Restaurants and McDonald’s are an outstanding benefit to our organization. These partnerships continue to help make high school basketball a great experience for our student-athletes.
Coaches, thank you for all you do for the game of basketball. If I can ever help in any way, please contact me. I wish you all a season of excellence.
