IBCA/IHSAA college exposure events

Some of the top players with returning high school eligibility in the state were invited to participate in the 18th annual IBCA/IHSAA Underclass Showcase events in 2020 – the girls on June 19 and the boys on June 20. However, both events ultimately were canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Still, the IBCA collected information on all the players, including offering each invited player the opportunity to provide links to two videos of the player in action. Then the IBCA put together an electronic guide to all the invited players, which was made available to college coaches all across the country.

So while the IBCA was unable to hold the Underclass Showcase events in a traditional way, Indiana high school prospects still were provided exposure to college programs through their invitation to the Showcase as well as the electronic guides to the events.

Similarly, the IBCA/IHSAA Boys’ Team Showcase in memory of Charlie Hughes was scheduled for June 26-28, 2020. And similarly, because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Team Showcase also was canceled.

Plans are to resume these three events in a “normal” way in 2021.

  • The 2021 IBCA/IHSAA Girls’ Underclass Showcase is set for June 18 at Ben Davis. Kathie Layden of Northwestern serves as the director of the Girls’ Underclass Showcase.
  • The 2021 IBCA/IHSAA Boys’ Underclass Showcase is set for June 19 at Ben Davis. Brian Satterfield of Hamilton Southeastern serves as the director of the Boys’ Underclass Showcase.
  • The 2021 IBCA/IHSAA Boys’ Team Showcase in memory of Charlie Hughes is set for June 25-27 at Carmel, Westfield and North Central. Tom Beach, IBCA assistant director, helps coordinate the Boys’ Team Showcase.

The two boys’ events are held during weekends that have been designated as “scholastic weekends” by the NCAA on its Men’s Division I recruiting calendar.

The IBCA would like to thank the IHSAA, McDonald's, Gatorade, Champion, BSN Sports, IHSAA basketball officials who called the scrimmages and all the high school coaches for their support over the years in making these events successful.
