About 100 high school boys and girls will have the opportunity to win IBCA/Subway Player of the Week recognition in 2019-20. This is the 12th season of IBCA Player of the Week Awards.
Initiated in 2008-09 thanks to support from the Indiana Pacers and Indiana Fever, these awards were given to deserving boys and girls who had outstanding weeks. Subway is beginning its eighth season as the award’s presenting partner. In the 2018-19 season, 96 players – 49 boys and 47 girls – were recognized with IBCA/Subway Player of the Week awards.
For the coming season, plans are for at least one boy and one girl from each of the three IHSAA districts to be honored each week, so long as there are nominees for the awards. The IBCA would prefer that nominations come from coaches of potential winners or from media in those areas. Coaches are to be current-year IBCA members in order to nominate players.
To submit a nominee, please e-mail info to IBCA district representative Brandon Bradley at madisongrantgbb@gmail.com by noon Monday each week of the playing season (girls from Nov. 5 through Feb. 25; boys from Nov. 26 through March 25). Coach Bradley is coordinating the IBCA/Subway Player of the Week program for boys and for girls for the 2019-20 season.
If you nominate a player, please include the player's name, school, grade, height, position, year in school and a recap of the player's performance in his/her game or games of the preceding week, Monday through Saturday. Please also include the coach's name, e-mail address and best phone number to reach the coach. Posting game information on MaxPreps in a timely fashion is another way to help players be considered for a Player of the Week award.
After all players are selected during a given week, they will be added to a growing list of IBCA/Subway Players of the Week. At the end of the season, in conjunction with the annual IBCA Clinic, Player of the Week winners will receive a certificate in recognition of the honor.
The first deadline for reports for the coming season will be noon on Monday, Nov. 11 for girls and Monday, Dec. 2 for boys. These will continue each week through the Monday following the IHSAA Boys and Girls State Finals.
