Indiana-Kentucky Challenge Cup

The fifth Indiana-Kentucky Challenge Cup was played Jan. 6 at Central Hardin High School in Cecilia, Ky. The event is a five-game competition between teams from Indiana and Kentucky, coordinated by the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association and the Kentucky Association of Basketball Coaches.

Kentucky won the event for the fifth consecutive season, this time taking a 5-0 edge and posting the first sweep of the competition.

  • Boys: Bullitt East (Ky.) 65, Rushville 51
  • Boys: Oldham County (Ky.) 70, Oldenburg Academy 38
  • Girls: Mercer County (Ky.) 60, Jeffersonville 53
  • Boys: Covington Catholic (Ky.) 69, Oak Hill 53
  • Boys: Scott County (Ky.) 89, Evansville Bosse 77

Over five seasons, Kentucky teams have won 18 of 25 games (4-1 in 2014, 3-2 in 2015, 3-2 in 2016, 3-2 in 2017, and 5-0 in 2018).

Veterans and their immediate families were admitted at no charge, and proceeds from the event benefited the Indiana and Kentucky basketball halls of fame.

The “Challenge Cup” is on display at the Kentucky High School Basketball Hall of Fame.

The sixth Indiana-Kentucky Challenge Cup is scheduled for Jan. 5, 2019, at New Castle Fieldhouse. An IBCA committee will choose the teams from Indiana for the event.

If your team is interested, please contact IBCA assistant director Tom Beach at tabeach@anderson.edu.

This is not an “exempt” event, so playing in this event must be within the IHSAA schedule limits.
