2018 Roy Gardner Award

 
 
 

Congratulations to the Roy Gardner Award Winner: Tom Walters

Tom WaltersTom Walters of Indianapolis is the winner of the 2018 Roy Gardner Award.

Walters is a 1973 graduate of Mooresville High School, where he played basketball and baseball. He also attended IUPUI.

He started officiating basketball in 1983. In 2010, he branched out to become a football official and he also became a starter in track and field. His basketball career has earned him the opportunity to officiate boys’ State Finals on four occasions – in 2004, 2007, 2010 and 2013. He also had the privilege in his short football career to officiate the Class 5A championship game in 2015.

Walters is a proud member of the Indiana Officials Association. He has been an IHSAA basketball clinician for several certification clinics.

His profession for the last 40 years has been in the architectural reprographic industry, including owning his own business for 20-plus years. His other interests include real estate development and entrepreneur. His hobbies include landscape design, staying fit and all water sports.

Walters has lived on Indianapolis’ northside for 35 years with his wife, Deb. They have two adult children – Ellis, 28, and Chaney, 24.
