Girls' Coaches of the Year

 
 
 

Gary Collins

District I - Michigan City

Gary CollinsCoach Collins has coached numerous boys' and girls' sports during his career at Washington Twp., Portage, Westville and Michigan City High Schools. He has been the head coach at Michigan City since 2002. His 2006-2007 record was 22-2. Winners of their holiday tournament, they were defeated in their sectional by eventual 4A class champion South Bend Washington. Coach congratulations on an outstanding year.


Ken Markful

District I - Andrean

Ken MarkfulCoach Markful has just completed his 9th year as head coach at Andrean. He was JV coach four years before that. In 2002, he was selected the ICGSA 3A Coach of the Year and this past year he was selected Lake Athletic Conference Coach of the Year. This past season Coach led the Fighting 59ers to an 18-5 record. They were Lake Athletic Conference Champions and Wheeler Tournament Champions. During his career at Andrean, they have won three Conference, four Sectional and one Regional Championships. His overall record is 134-73. Coach congratulations on a successful season.


Steve Drabyn

District II - Avon

Steve DrabynCoach Drabyn is a 29 year coaching veteran. He spend 2 years at Ben Davis Junior High and 21 years at La Porte. The past six years he has coached at Avon. This past season Drabyn led the Orioles to the Hendricks County Championship, a 20-3 record and a state ranking as high as third in the 4A poll. Congratulations Coach!


Todd Law

District II - Oak Hill

Todd LawCoach Law has been a Guidance Counselor and the Girls Basketball coach at Oak Hill since 2004. During that time he has led the Lady Eagles to a 46-22 record.

This past year was a season of firsts for the Lady Eagles. They were Sectional and Regional Champs for the first time in school history and advanced to the Final Four. Their FT% 71% and offense average 62 points per game were the best in school history. They defeated seven teams that were ranked in the Top 20. The Lady Eagles were ranked third in the state poll with a record of 24-2. Congratulations Coach, you led the Lady Eagles to an outstanding season of accomplishments.


Jim Rose

District III - Bloomfield

Jim RoseIn 2003 Coach Rose became the Girls' Basketball Coach at Bloomfield High School. In his second season he led the Cardinals to the Semi-State before losing to Northeast Dubois. This past season the Cardinals were rated #1 in the 1A poll before losing in the Regional Championship. During the past three seasons, Rose has led Bloomfield to three Sectionals, one Regional and two consecutive undefeated SWIAC Championships. His three year record is 61-13. Coach congratulations. You have done a good job building a successful program at Bloomfield.


Greg Werner

District III - Southridge

Greg WernerCoach Werner led the Raiders to a 22-2 record this season and a 2A Top 10 Ranking before bowing out in the Regional Championship to Mitchell. During his coaching career, Werner led teams have won two PAC Conference Championships (2005 and 2007), two Sectional Championships (1999 and 2007) plus a Regional Championship in 1999. His 2005 Raider team finished the regular season undefeated. Coach Werner is 61-7 during his three year career at Southridge. Coach, you have led your Raiders on a good run the past three years.
