By Roger Dickinson, Executive Director of the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame

By the time you read this column the pairings for the 2007 City Securities Hall of Fame Classic will have been announced. If you and your team are not involved in a tournament on December 27 & 28 you are invited to scout the action at the New Castle Fieldhouse. The girls will play the first day and the boys will battle it out the second day. The Hall of Fame Classic is the most prestigious tournament in the state and this year’s field will make the games as competitive as ever.

Coaches that have a team that show great promise for the 2008-2009 season are encouraged to apply for the tournament that will be held in December 2008. Interested personnel should contact the Hall of Fame, 765-529-1891, or the web site, www.hoopshall.com, for an application. It is desired that the simple one page application, mid-year statistics and roster be returned in January. The selection committee studies the material, follows the rankings and attempts to scout each team before a final selection is made.

The City Securities Hall of Fame Classic is the ideal tournament for coaches to showcase the schools talented team and outstanding player(s), as some of the participating teams always feature strong candidates for the Indianapolis Star Indiana All-Star Team. Media sources from around the state are present to cover the event and the games are televised on WHMB Channel 40.

It is hoped you will plan a trip to the Hall of Fame this spring/summer and enjoy the many new displays that have been created for the public’s enjoyment. Each month, visitors from around the world walk through the doors and tour the Hall, as well as basketball fans from an average of 21 different states.

Hoosier basketball, there is nothing like it.
