The fourth Indiana-Kentucky Challenge Cup was played Jan. 7 at New Castle Fieldhouse. The event is a five-game competition between teams from Indiana and Kentucky, coordinated by the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association and the Kentucky Association of Basketball Coaches.
Kentucky won the event for the fourth consecutive season, this time taking a 3-2 edge in the five games.
- Girls: Mason County (Ky.) 64, Greenfield-Central 48
- Boys: Bardstown (Ky.) 65, West Washington 43
- Boys: Cloverdale 88, Franklin County (Ky.) 64
- Boys: Louisville Waggener (Ky.) 64, Oak Hill 61, OT
- Boys: Connersville 78, Louisville Ballard (Ky.) 67
Over four seasons, Kentucky teams have won 13 of 20 games (4-1 in 2014, 3-2 in 2015, 3-2 in 2016 and 3-2 in 2017).
Veterans and their immediate families were admitted at no charge, and proceeds from the event benefited the Indiana and Kentucky basketball halls of fame.
The “Challenge Cup” is on display at the Kentucky High School Basketball Hall of Fame.
The fifth Indiana-Kentucky Challenge Cup is scheduled for Jan. 6, 2018, and will be played in Kentucky. An IBCA committee will choose the teams from Indiana for the event.
