Congratulations to the Mildred Ball Award Winner: Bob Frye
Bob Frye is the winner of the Mildred Ball Award for 2016.
A 1973 graduate of Decatur Central High School, Frye played football and baseball for the Hawks before matriculating to Marian University. He played baseball for the Knights before becoming a licensed IHSAA basketball official in 1977.
He called both boys’ basketball and girls’ basketball games for 18 seasons. From 1982-91, he worked 10 girls’ sectionals, seven girls’ regionals, three girls’ semistates and one girls’ state championship game. From 1983-95, he worked 13 boys’ sectionals, nine boys’ regionals, four boys’ semistates and one boys’ state title game.
A long-time employee of the U.S. Postal Service as a letter carrier, Frye continued to serve the game as an IHSAA officiating observer from 1996-2000.
Frye and his wife, Sally Ann, have two adult children – Scott and Julie Marie.
