2015-16 Girls Coaches of the Year

 
 
 

Congratulations to the 2015-16 Bob King Award winners as Girls' Coaches of the Year.

Chris Kindig

District 1 - Tippecanoe Valley

Chris KindigChris Kindig is an IBCA District 1 Coach of the Year in girls’ basketball.

Kindig guided the Vikings to a 25-2 record this season, including a Three Rivers Conference title and a Class 3A sectional championships. In six seasons at Tippecanoe Valley, Kindig’s teams have gone 90-45 with two sectional titles, one regional title and one semistate crown. The Vikings were Class 3A state runner-up in 2015.

The coach is a 1980 graduate of Tippecanoe Valley and a 1984 graduate of Purdue. He played basketball and tennis while in high school.

In addition to coaching, Kindig is an accountant for Plymouth Tube Co.

Kindig and his wife, Sharon, have three children – Krysta (30), Andrea (28) and Nick (21).

Tony Stesiak

District 1 - Rochester

Tony StesiakTony Stesiak also is an IBCA District 1 Coach of the Year in girls’ basketball.

Stesiak recently completed his 16th season as coach at Rochester, guiding the Zebras to a 24-2 season that included a sectional championship. During his career, Stesiak’s teams are 249-120 and have claimed five Three Rivers Conference titles, four sectional championships, two regional titles, one semistate crown and the 2004 Class 2A state championship.

Stesiak has been named head coach of the 2016 Indiana Junior All-Stars.

The coach is a 1991 graduate of LaPorte. He earned his bachelor’s degree in 1995 from Ball State and a master’s in education in 2007 from Olivet Nazarene.

He teaches government and economics at Rochester, where he also serves as chairman of the school’s social studies department.

Stesiak and his wife, Stacy, have three children – daughter Keaton (17) as well as sons Trey (14) and Quin (12).

Doug Laker

District 2 - Greenfield-Central

Doug LakerDoug Laker is an IBCA District 2 Coach of the Year.

Laker has been the coach at Greenfield-Central for eight seasons, guiding the Cougars to a 23-5 record that included a Hoosier Heritage Conference championship and a Class 4A sectional title.

During his time in Greenfield, Laker’s teams are 112-66 with all or a share of two HHC championships. He also was an assistant athletic director at Greenfield from 2007 through 2015.

Laker, a 2015 Indiana Junior All-Star assistant coach, serves on the IBCA all-state committee and is the ICGSA girls’ basketball coordinator for District 4.

A 1987 graduate of Rushville High School, Laker earned a bachelor’s degree in physical education and health from Indiana University. He later earned a master’s degree in sports administration from Ball State and a transition to teaching degree from Indiana Wesleyan.

Laker formerly was a boys’ basketball assistant coach in Rushville from 1990 through 2007 prior to moving to Greenfield-Central in 2007.

He works as the human resources director for Laker Farm Implement Service.

Laker and his wife, Chris, have two children – Travis and Morgan – and four grandchildren.

Andy Maguire

District 2 - Zionsville

Andy MaguireAndy Maguire has completed 13 seasons as varsity girls’ basketball coach at Zionsville and is 118-151 with the Lady Eagles. In 18 seasons as a head coach, including five at Western Boone, he has a 192-181 record.

This season, his team went 20-4 and won the program’s first sectional since 1996. The season’s record was the best in school history and the Lady Eagles were recognized as having the biggest turnaround in the state, improving from 4-16 in 2014-15 to 20-4 in 2015-16.

Maguire will serve as an assistant coach for the 2016 Indiana Junior All-Stars.

Maguire is a 1982 graduate of South Vermillion High School, where he played basketball and baseball. He attended Purdue University from 1982-1987 and has a master’s degree in administration from IUPUI. Maguire teaches health and physical education at Zionsville Middle School.

Maguire started his coaching career at Lebanon, where he was freshman boys’ basketball coach for one year. He moved to Western Boone and served as freshman boys’ basketball coach for six years before becoming the head girls’ basketball coach. During his five seasons at Western Boone, the Lady Stars went 74-30 and he directed the team to a sectional crown in 1996.

Maguire and his wife, Jennie, have been married for 26 years. They have three daughters – Megan (23), Grace (20) and Emily (16).

Scott Smith

District 3 - Jac-Cen-Del

Scott SmithScott Smith is a graduate of Jac-Cen-Del High School and Northern Kentucky University.

During his 15-year tenure as girls’ basketball coach at Jac-Cen-Del, the Lady Eagles have complied a 258-102 (.717) record. Along the way, they have won 12 sectionals (including eight straight), four regionals, one semi-state and the 2016 Class A State Championship (27-1).

The Lady Eagles also have captured six Ohio River Valley Conference titles during Smith’s tenure. He also was named an IBCA District 3 Coach of the Year in 2008.

Smith and his wife, Vickie, have been married for 32 years and have two children – Heather (Huff) a 2002 J-C-D player and NKU graduate, and Trent, a 2013 J-C-D Player and current NKU student. They also have two grandsons, Brody and Charlie Huff.

Missy Voyles

District 3 - North Harrison

Missy VoylesMissy Voyles is an IBCA District 3 Coach of the Year in girls’ basketball after guiding North Harrison to a 28-3 record, including a Class 3A state runner-up finish.

Voyles has coached the Lady Cats for 13 seasons over two stints, compiling a 205-101 record in tenures spanning 1997-2005 and 2011-present. Her teams have won four sectionals, two regionals and one semistate.

She began her coaching career as a girls’ basketball assistant at New Albany from 1993-97.

Voyles will serve as an assistant coach for the 2016 Indiana All-Stars. She also was chosen the IBCA District 5 Coach of the Year in 2003.

A 1988 graduate of North Harrison, Voyles competed in basketball, volleyball and track in high school. She earned her bachelor’s degree in secondary education at IU-Southeast, where she played basketball and volleyball. She has been a language arts teacher for 18 years at North Harrison Middle School.

Voyles and her husband, James, have three sons – Konnor (18), Cameron (15) and Caleb (10).
