The IBCA calendar in 2015-16 again will include the Indiana-Kentucky Challenge Cup, a five-game event between teams from Indiana and Kentucky.
The third Challenge Cup will be Jan. 9 at Frankfort Civic Center in Frankfort, Ky. Teams representing Indiana are Columbus North (girls), Wood Memorial, Forest Park, Jay County and New Albany.
The event is being coordinated by the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association and the Kentucky Association of Basketball Coaches.
The schedule for the day is:
- Girls: Columbus North vs. Franklin County, Ky., noon
- Boys: Wood Memorial vs. Madison Southern, Ky., about 2 p.m.
- Boys: Jay County vs. Cooper, Ky., about 4 p.m.
- Boys: New Albany vs. Lexington Paul Laurence Dunbar, Ky., about 6 p.m.
- Boys: Forest Park vs. Owen County, Ky., about 8 p.m.
Kentucky has won both previous events – 4-1 in 2014 in Louisville’s Freedom Hall and 3-2 in 2015 in the New Castle Fieldhouse. In two years, the event has raised nearly $16,000 for charities, including the Wounded Warrior Program as well as the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame and the Kentucky High School Basketball Hall of Fame.
Admission is $10.00 per person for the entire day of games. Military service veterans and their immediate families will be admitted at no charge. Tickets will be available from participating schools or on game day at the Frankfort Civic Center.
A best-of-five-game format will determine the winner of the 2016 Challenge Cup. The 10 participating teams feature multiple NCAA Division I prospects. Proceeds from the 2016 event again will go to the Wounded Warrior Program as well as the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame and the Kentucky High School Basketball Hall of Fame.
Plans are for this event to be hosted at an Indiana site in January 2017.
