The second Indiana-Kentucky Challenge Cup was played Jan. 10 at New Castle Fieldhouse. The event is a five-game competition between teams from Indiana and Kentucky, coordinated by the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association and the Kentucky Association of Basketball Coaches.
Kentucky won the event for the second consecutive season, this time taking a 3-2 edge in the five games.
Girls: Elizabethtown (Ky.) 71, Homestead 68
Boys: Newport Central Catholic (Ky.) 82, South Knox 53
Boys: Indianapolis Scecina 51, Southwestern (Ky.) 59
Boys: Wayne County (Ky.) 67, Hamilton Heights 66
Boys: Zionsville 56, Scott County (Ky.) 49
Veterans and their immediate families were admitted at no charge, and proceeds from the event benefited the Wounded Warrior Program as well as the Indiana and Kentucky basketball halls of fame.
The “Challenge Cup” is on display at the Kentucky High School Basketball Hall of Fame.
The third Indiana-Kentucky Challenge Cup is scheduled for Jan. 9, 2016, and will be played in Kentucky. An IBCA committee will choose the teams from Indiana for the event.
