Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame report

By Chris May

Chris MayAs the new season approaches, the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame wishes each of you the best in 2011-12.

An event to mark on your calendars is the 2011 City Securities Hall of Fame Classic. Please take note of the schedule below.

The games take place Thursday, December 29 and Friday, December 30, 2011 at the world’s largest and finest high school fieldhouse in New Castle.

Tickets are available in advance from the participating schools for $10 per day. Tickets purchased at the door will be $10 per session. Coaches interested in bringing their team to the tournament should contact me (contact info in the last paragraph) for a discounted rate.

Last year’s tournament provided a great atmosphere and great games. We expect much the same this year with two fields lined with star players, outstanding teams and some of the top coaches in the state. The tournament features some of the best competition from the state and is a great opportunity to bring your team for a day of basketball.

The Hall of Fame museum, the only statewide high school basketball museum in the country, is another great opportunity for a team outing. Many of our memorabilia displays have been updated this summer. We have had visitors from coast to coast visit this summer and come away impressed with the history and Indiana’s passion for high school basketball.

As a team-building trip, to build excitement for the season or for a mid-season history lesson, we offer an affordable option for teams -- $1 per player with coaches free. Keep in mind that no player on your roster this year had been born when Damon Bailey played his final high school game in 1990. The Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame is a true history lesson that all current players could use.

We are also unveiling a new website this fall that gives the Hall of Fame a better online presence. In addition to providing information on inductees and award winners, our new site gives us the opportunity to showcase more photos of Indiana basketball legends, allows us to take online event registrations for our fund-raising events and our eCommerce gift shop will allow you to find that perfect basketball item for yourself or a friend.

The Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame continued to add to our membership last year with a special offer to IBCA members. Coming again this year, we encourage you to support the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame by becoming an “Active Coach member” for $25. This is 75 percent off of our typical rate and gives you the same benefits as a “Regular member.”

I hope you will enjoy some of our numerous activities with the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame this year. Also, I appreciate your support as we celebrate the history, tradition and memories of basketball in our state while educating and cultivating the next generation of Indiana basketball fans.

Please contact our office at (765) 529-1891 or email chris@hoopshall.com for more information or if we can help you.
