IBCA/Pacers-Fever Player of the Week program

About 100 high school boys and girls will have the opportunity to win IBCA/Pacers-Fever Player of the Week recognition in 2011-12.

Launched in 2008-09 when the Pacers and Fever came on board as sponsors of the IBCA, these awards were given to deserving boys and girls who had outstanding weeks during the last three seasons.

Winners recognized by Indiana’s two professional basketball franchises have included players from schools all across the state. Last season, more than 100 players were honored during the season. At the end of the season, 10 players – five boys and five girls – represented all the winners and were recognized at an Indiana Pacers game against the Washington Wizards.

Players honored there were:
BOYS

  1. Rontray Chavis, Princeton High School. Won award Dec. 20-25 & Jan. 10-15 & Feb. 21-26.
  2. Darwin "Dee" Davis, Bloomington South High School. Won award March 14-19.
  3. Glenn Robinson III, Lake Central High School. Won award Jan. 31-Feb. 5.
  4. Max Landis, Perry Meridian High School. Won award Jan. 3-8.
  5. Logan Thomas, Monroe Central High School. Won award Nov. 29-Dec. 4 & Feb. 14-19.

GIRLS
  1. Bria Goss, Ben Davis High School. Won award Nov. 29-Dec. 4 & Dec. 20-25.
  2. Kaila Hulls, Bloomington South High School. Won award Nov. 15-20.
  3. Jessica Brown, Mt. Vernon (Fortville) High School. Won award Feb. 7-12.
  4. Jessica Rupright, Norwell High School. Won award Nov. 22-27.
  5. Akyah Taylor, Elkhart Memorial High School. Won award Nov. 15-20 & Jan. 17-22.

At least one boy and one girl from each of the three IBCA Districts are honored each week, so long as there are nominees for the awards. The IBCA would prefer that nominations come from coaches of potential winners or from media in those areas. Coaches must be IBCA members to nominate players.

To submit a nominee, please e-mail info to IBCA Special Projects coordinator Pat McKee (patmckee77@aol.com) by noon Monday each week of the playing season (girls from Nov. 14 through March 5; boys from Nov. 28 through March 26).

If you nominate a player, please include the player's name, school, grade, height, position, year in school and a recap of the player's performance in his/her game or games of the preceding week, Monday through Saturday. Please also include the coach's name, e-mail address and best phone number to reach the coach.

After all players are selected during a given week, they will be added to a growing list of IBCA/Pacers-Fever High School Players of the Week. The weekly listings will be posted no later than noon Tuesday. Coaches and/or Athletic Directors of the weekly winners will be notified by Pat McKee.

Quinn Buckner, former Indiana University and Boston Celtics player, coordinates the sponsorship for the Pacers & Fever with the IBCA.

The first deadline for reports for the coming season will be noon on Monday, Nov. 14 for girls and Monday, Nov. 28 for boys. These will continue each week through the Monday following the IHSAA Boys' and Girls' State Finals.
