I would hope by now everyone has gotten the school year off to a good start and is busy preparing for another exciting season of “Hoosier Hysteria.” As our coaches association grows and takes on more projects, we appreciate your support.
By now every head coach should have received membership information. It is the head coach’s professional responsibility to join the IBCA. Please also make sure that all your high school assistants, middle school and elementary coaches are encouraged to join.
Please pay attention to our IBCA Calendar of Events. Pay particular attention to the January mailing that includes nomination and election information. Please also note deadline dates to nominate players for honor teams, scholarships, showcases as well ballots for District Representatives and Coaches of the Year. Don’t hurt deserving candidates’ chances of receiving recognition because you forgot to join the IBCA or you missed a deadline.
January will again be “Coaches vs. Cancer” month for high school basketball in Indiana. High school coaches in Indiana have stepped up and embraced this program, raising more than $360,000 for cancer research over the past four seasons. Besides research of this deadly disease, coaches are also teaching our young athletes a skill -- giving back to one’s community -- that they will carry with them throughout their lives and into their communities where they will work and serve.
Please also don't forget to review the "Yours For Better Basketball" part of the Members-Only Section of the IBCA website. This is a coaches' in-service page with articles on leadership, strategy, drills, etc. Articles are posted twice per month from November through April. There also is an archive of past articles.
