IBCA Represented at National Meeting

This past July, the newly founded National High School Basketball Coaches Association (NHSBCA) met to continue to organize and share ideas. This organization has developed as a result of a meeting held in Indianapolis in 2004. Besides Indiana, Texas, New York, Ohio, Michigan, and Wisconsin were in attendance at that meeting.

Currently the NHSBCA is comprised of organizations from 28 states. Twenty-two of those states were represented at the July meeting, and the continued sharing of ideas among the states has resulted in the organization developing a constitution and electing officers. The main mission of the organization is to unite High School Basketball Coaches across the country, to promote the game and/or empower the high school coaching profession. The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) recognizes the NHSBCA, allows us a representative on their congress and has reduced NABC membership fees for the active high school basketball coach from $70 to $29.50. As more states become involved with the NHSBCA, it is hoped high school coaches will gain an even louder voice with the NCAA, NABC, USA Basketball and other groups for the betterment of high school basketball.

The NHSBCA officers are as follows: President, Dave Archer, New York; president-elect, Greg Grantham, North Carolina; vice president/treasurer, Steve Witty, Indiana; communications director, Rick Czeslowski, Illinois; past president, Tom Hershey, Michigan.

The states represented at the July meeting included the following: Alaska, Arizona, California (Southern), Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Washington and Wisconsin.
