All-Star Report

By Charlie Hall

Charlie HallIt was another rewarding season on the Indiana All-Star front in 2010 with improving attendance, wins on the court and twice the net proceeds to benefit Indiana non-profit organizations. The continued efforts of Steve Witty and the IBCA have been instrumental in that success.

Our Conseco Fieldhouse crowd for the June 12 doubleheader with Kentucky was 6,007, up slightly over the past two years. A contributing factor to the growing attendance is the Game Day Shootout that The Indianapolis Star and the IBCA jointly produce.

This year we invited all schools who had an All-Star player to bring their middle-school teams along with the varsity level squads to the Shootout. This created a significant undertaking for everyone involved. I would like to thank Jennifer Gombach and Anne Templeton at The Star, along with Stan Benge, Kathie Layden, Bill Pfister, Bill Uhrig, Renee Turpa, and Jeanie Witty for all their efforts.

Also, Pat Strong does a great job coordinating the officials, and Randy Shields provides McDonald's meals for everyone. Quinn Moore and Jon Gelsing at Hat World donated more than 800 T-shirts for the Shootout. The time, effort and contributions of these individuals and others resulted in an extremely successful Shootout and All-Star doubleheader.

Indiana once again dominated the series on the court, taking three of four games from Kentucky. We can do that because of the endless pool of talented coaches and players who are available year in and year out in the great state of Indiana. With the continued support of The Indianapolis Star, corporate sponsorships such as those from Marsh and the IBCA, the future looks bright for the games.
