Since the 2009-2010 season has come and gone, I hope that everyone has had an enjoyable and memorable hardwood campaign.
During the past few months the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame was fortunate to have Coach Bob Knight back in Indianapolis for a fundraiser dinner, at which time he reflected on his time with Indiana University basketball. The 2009 City Securities Hall of Fame Classic featured strong competition with the Rushville girls and Mt. Vernon (Fortville) boys capturing championships as part of very successful seasons. Preparations are already underway for the 2010 City Securities Hall of Fame Classic, to be played on Wednesday, December 29 and Thursday, December 30.
We are proud of our incoming class of 2010 inductees, Silver Anniversary Team honorees, and Center Circle Officials Award honorees for both men and women. We will welcome the newest Hall of Famers this spring.
We also hope to spread the word and history of Indiana high school basketball as more than 100,000 college basketball fans converge on Indianapolis during the Big Ten tournament and NCAA Men’s Final Four.
This year the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame offered discounted annual memberships for just $25 to active coaches who are members of the IBCA. We are pleased that some of you have taken advantage of this opportunity, that gets you a subscription to our quarterly magazine, free admission to our museum, a discount in our gift shop and other benefits. We encourage all of you to consider this offer and want to let you know it is not too late to help support the best high school basketball museum in the country!
We are also very proud of the special edition of our Indiana Basketball History Magazine that was published in March in conjunction with the 100th IHSAA boys’ basketball state finals. “Memories of 100 Years” was a collection of state finals memories from the players, coaches, media, referees, administrators and others who have made our state’s basketball history the envy of all other states. A huge thank you goes to the IBCA for sponsorship and helping make this project a success. This allowed us to produce a publication that can help educate today’s players of the rich history of Indiana high school basketball and bring back plenty of memories to those of us who have been a part or have witnessed those moments.
Upcoming Hall of Fame events include three golf tournaments this summer. Make plans to join us May 14 in Edinburgh, July 7 in Kokomo, or July 19 in Noblesville. Call our office at (765) 529-1891 for more information or to register.
Additionally, we have established a Facebook page that allows fans to follow the Hall of Fame and get updates on our events, inductees, and photos as well. We encourage coaches as well as players to become a fan of our Facebook page to stay in the loop with all that we have going on. Simply search “Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame” on Facebook.
We appreciate the support from the IBCA and the relationship between our organizations. Contact our offices at (765) 529-1891, email me at chris@hoopshall.com, or better yet visit our 14,000 square foot facility in New Castle with any ideas or questions or to simply enjoy some time at the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame.
Sincerely,
Chris May
