For the fourth year in a row Steve Witty, IBCA Executive Director and Marty Johnson, Associate Executive Director represented the IBCA at the National High School Basketball Coaches & Directors (NHSBCD) conference in Louisville, Kentucky. This organization was started in Indianapolis four years ago. Besides Indiana, Texas, Ohio, New York, Michigan and Wisconsin were in attendance at this meeting. Currently 26 states are members of the organization.
One of the most beneficial reasons for attending the annual conference is to discuss issues that affect high school basketball throughout the country. Topics discussed in the meetings this year included membership, clinics, sponsors, showcases events, websites, finances, Coaches vs Cancer, recruiting issues, state of the game/ fundamentals and involvement in the NCAA/NBA IHoops initiative. The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) officially recognizes the NHSBCD organization and has reduced NABC membership fees from $70.00 to $29.50 for all high school coaches who are members of their state association. As more states become involved with the NHSBCD we hope to gain even a louder voice with the NCAA, NABC, The National Federation and others for the betterment of high school basketball.
