Indiana All-Star report

By Mike Broughton

My eighth year as game director of the Indiana All-Stars produced quality games that were well played by both Indiana and Kentucky.

In the Friday games held at Lexington Catholic High School, the Kentucky girls used a last-second basket to edge our Hoosier girls 59-57 after Indiana had rallied from an 11-point deficit to tie the game in the final 10 seconds. Brooke Zartman paced Indiana with 13 points, while Lola Lampley added nine points, Komari Booker had eight points and Vanessa Rosswurm tallied seven points and a game-high 11 rebounds.

The boys’ game in Lexington saw Indiana post a convincing 106-83 triumph. Dikembe Shaw led the way with 24 points, while Brennan Miller netted 20 points and 12 rebounds. Baron Walker provided 17 points while Noah Smith added 13 points and 12 rebounds and Mr. Basketball Luke Ertel had eight points plus 10 assists.

On Saturday at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, the Indiana girls bounced back for a 90-71 victory. Brooklynn Renn posted a double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds, while Miss Basketball Gracyn Gilliard and Laniah Wills each also had 15 points and Vanessa Rosswurm had 13 points. The Wooden/MCL Citizenship Award went to Komari Booker of Pike.

In the boys’ contest, Indiana completed a sweep of Kentucky with a 94-80 decision. Mr. Basketball Luke Ertel totaled 21 points, eight rebounds and eight assists, while Baron Walker provided 18 points and seven rebounds and Brennan Miller tallied 14 points and eight rebounds. The Wooden/MCL Citizenship Award went to Evan Harrell of Carmel.

HAPPY DAY: The Indiana All-Star teams, boys and girls, each gathered for a group photo at the conclusion of the 2026 games against Kentucky in Gainbridge Fieldhouse. The boys completed a sweep with a 94-80 victory. The girls split their annual series, winning 90-71 in the finale.

Looking ahead to 2027, dates for the Indiana/Kentucky All-Star senior doubleheaders have been set for Friday, June 4 in Kentucky and Saturday, June 5 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. Sites for the other All-Star week doubleheaders have not yet been determined. The dates have been set; they are – Indiana Juniors vs. Kentucky Juniors on Sunday, May 30; the All-Star Futures Games doubleheader on Monday, May 31; and the Junior-Senior exhibition contests on Wednesday, June 2.

Currently, I am preparing to travel across Indiana in the 2026-27 season to find the best 24 seniors – 12 boys and 12 girls for the 2027 All-Star teams. I look forward to seeing the best of Indiana high school basketball.

As I have stated in the past, in 49 states it is just basketball, but this is Indiana. Let our schools and fans across the state pull together and have a great 2026-27 school year in all academic and athletic endeavors.

You may follow the Indiana All-Stars throughout the year on our “X” account, @indallstars, which has grown to more than 5,800 followers. We also have a new Indiana All-Stars website – www.indallstars.com – with current and historical information.

– Mike Broughton, Indiana All-Star games director
