Indiana High School Record Book (boys only)

The Indiana basketball Record Book has statistics on nearly every high school boys’ program in the state — 400-plus schools. This is a boys-only product. However, this book is only as complete as coaches make it by submitting information using the forms distributed during sectional week. If you have not done so already, Indiana boys’ basketball coaches, please submit your team’s final 2024-25 season statistics using the four forms you were emailed in early March.

This 2025 edition of the Record Book, the 46th year it will be produced, marks a significant milestone in its history, transitioning from the dedicated efforts of Gene Milner and Greencastle Offset Printing and Graphics – who successfully published the past 42 editions – to the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association.

Under the guidance of Milner, executive director Marty Johnson, associate executive director Tom Beach and assistant director Kristi Sigler, with assistance from Beth Winchell of Winchell Graphic Design and Dave Moeller of Moeller Printing, the 2025 edition has been thoughtfully crafted with a major enhancement: all information is now collected digitally, ensuring improved accuracy and accessibility.

The IBCA views the Indiana basketball Record Book not just as a publication but as a cherished keepsake that celebrates the achievements of student-athletes, coaches and families from the past season as well as some historical information for 100-plus years.

Looking ahead, the IBCA is eager to explore opportunities for new individuals to take on the responsibility of publishing the Indiana boys’ basketball Record Book and is also open to the exciting prospect of developing an Indiana girls' basketball Record Book, reflecting its commitment to growth and inclusion within the basketball community.

A brief history of the Record Book

Junior Mannies published the first Indiana high school boys’ basketball Record Book on April 25, 1980. The inaugural Record Book was 56 pages, sold for $2.50 each and included many of the items that the annual publication still features – a list of top individual scorers for the just-completed season, lists of W-L records for each school at the varsity, JV, freshman, eighth- and seventh-grade levels, top 50 teams in offensive average, defensive average, field goal percentage and free throw percentage as well as historical lists of 1,000-point career scorers, Indiana All-Star teams and past state champion teams. Mannies, who completed a 29-year coaching career at Elwood from 1977-80, published the first Record Book with assistance from Elwood Call-Leader sports editor Clarence Young.

Young passed away on March 1, 1981, so Mannies – who had become the athletic director at Danville – published the 1981 Record Book with assistance from Michigan City News-Dispatch sports editor Mark Morrow. Mannies published the third Record Book in 1982 before he passed away on March 18, 1983.

After Mannies’ passing, Gene Milner of Greencastle, a former head coach at Rensselaer Central, took over the Record Book for 1983. Milner served as the Record Book editor for 42 years – the 1983 edition through the 2024 edition.

The present and future of the Record Book

Beginning in 2025, the Record Book has become a “team project” of IBCA leadership including Milner, executive director Marty Johnson, associated executive director Tom Beach and assistant director Kristi Sigler with assistance from Beth Winchell of Winchell Graphic Design and Dave Moeller of Moeller Printing.
